Urban Tea House

To revitalize station squares, YDS intends to create “Spaces of Paths” in monotonous sidewalks.

In Edo period, there used to be several teahouses alongside main roadways including Tokaido roadway where travelers had a break.

The main concept is to bring them to life in modern design and create renewed one in station squares. All the beams, columns, and walls are made up by woods, and they would represent traditional Japanese wood design in a city.

Light and shadows generated by small beams change depends on the season and time, and they change every moment.

Creating minimum architectures and making spaces of path or roji which is one of the traditional Japanese spaces, the intention is to regenerate urban spaces by giving positive meanings to marginal spaces in cities.
